Senior Night Approaching

Pacers 70 - Hilltoppers 41

Pacers 45 - Wildcats 51

The Pacers split the weekend with an ORVC win against the Shawe Hilltoppers Friday night and a close loss to the Franklin County Wildcats on Saturday night. The past couple of weeks I have posted video showing how our team has come closer together and started celebrating each other. We are still on that path. Although we came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard on Saturday night, after going back and watching the film it was evident that we still did a lot of things well; we still competed, we still played TOGETHER. We just had good shots that didn't fall for us, which is something that can be fixed. We had a lot of GREAT teammates this weekend!

This week we finish up our regular season at home. Friday against Jac-Cen-Del we finish our conference season and will recognize our 3rd grad during halftime of the JV game, then we will recognize our 4th grade during halftime of the Varsity game. Saturday, Senior Night, we will recognize our 5th grade during halftime of the JV game and our 6th grade during halftime of the Varsity game.

This is a very exciting time of year. Our sectional draw is on Sunday. It is the time of year that all things become possible in the state of Indiana. In a couple of weeks there will be powerhouses across the state that will fall on Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday night and Cinderella's that will cut down nets on Saturday night. I have goosebumps as I type this. It all comes down to the draw, team belief, match ups, and a little luck (preparation, same thing). I can't wait to see what happens.

Quote of the Week:

"I am a big believer that if you have a very clear vision of where you want to go, then the rest of it is much easier."

- Arnold Schwarzenegger

We are refining our vision for the basketball program daily. We are working hard daily to learn new things that will help our program, while being consistent with our vision of preparing our players for life after high school. As we get closer to the end of the season I think it is important for us to remember our vision as well as the analogies between basketball and life. While I can clearly see a gym full of ORANGE and BLUE celebrating championships, I know that our purpose is to help young men become young adults equipped to do good. God has already created doors (opportunities) for all of us, will we be ready to sprint through the door when it opens?

Book of the Week:

I think this has been passed around quite a bit, but this has been very influential to me in my coaching. Mr. Ehrmann talks about building transformational relationships with players as opposed to transactional relationships. I know that in the last five years I have transformed with my players in many ways and I will continue to do so. I was telling a coach the other day that I wish I could go ahead and pull my ten years from now self down to coach these kids I have now. I am confident that my ten years from now self will be a much better coach than my current version.

Podcast of the Week:

Finding Mastery: Matt Brady, Retired U.S. Army Major

Here is the link:

This is a phenomenal listen. Especially if you have read the story, "Lone Survivor". He gave the go ahead for operation Redwing and was supposed to be on one of the helicopters that was shot down by an RPG. His story about how he dealt with all this is amazing, and there are a number of "golden nuggets" in here.

New Practice:

This past week I started a new practice of pausing throughout the day and bringing certain people to mind. Then I just take 10 sec. to wish that person joy and happiness without them knowing it. I know this sounds incredibly corny but it has helped my outlook and attitude.

Have a great week!

Adam
